Excitation of molecules by incident incoherent electromagnetic radiation, such as sunlight, is described in detail and contrasted with the effect coherent (e.g. laser) light. The nature quantum coherences induced former, relevant to transport processes technology, emphasized. Both equilibrium steady state scenarios are discussed, Three examples: simple models, calcium excitation polarized light, isomerization retinal rhodopsin used expose underlying qualitative established coherences.
